Blue: A Calm and Elegant Washbasin Design

Inspired by the Color Blue

Blue washbasin, designed by Mehmet Aktamar of Turkuaz Seramik, is a unique and elegant addition to any bathroom. Inspired by the calming and clear qualities of the color blue, this washbasin reflects the elegance of this unique color with its slim edges and sophisticated design.

One of the standout features of the Blue washbasin is its slim profile. With a thickness of only 8mm on the sides and top profile, this overcounter washbasin is exceptionally thin. This slim design creates a luxurious and calm atmosphere in the bathroom, providing a sense of tranquility and sophistication.

The Blue washbasin is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. Carefully thought out details ensure that the washbasin combines both beauty and practicality. The thin profile on the top prevents water from spilling out, protecting the cabinet and making cleaning easier. The soft bowl design further enhances the calming effect of the water, creating a serene and soothing experience for the user.

Produced with Fine Fire Clay (FFC) ceramic, the Blue washbasin is a testament to the designer's commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The use of this high-quality material ensures durability and longevity, making the washbasin a worthwhile investment for any bathroom.

Measuring at 100 x 470 x 165mm, the Blue washbasin is compatible with a cabinet. The thin edges on the sides and front are emphasized to highlight the washbasin's larger size compared to the cabinet. This design choice not only adds visual interest but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the washbasin.

The Blue washbasin project started in September 2016 and was completed in July 2017 in Turkey. It was exhibited at the ISH Fair in Frankfurt in March 2017, showcasing its innovative design and exceptional craftsmanship to a global audience.

The design process for the Blue washbasin involved extensive research on user behaviors, expectations, and existing products in the market. The goal was to create a trendy, stylish, and functional washbasin that would delight users. Through multiple prototypes and rigorous testing, the design team ensured that the washbasin met the highest standards of functionality, aesthetics, and ergonomics.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was producing an overcounter washbasin with the slimmest edges. It is notoriously difficult to achieve thin edge washbasins with a width of 100cm. However, the Blue washbasin successfully combines easy production with thin edges, resulting in a design that is both visually stunning and technically impressive.

The Blue washbasin has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate excellence in practicality, innovation, and meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Blue washbasin's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics make it a truly exceptional addition to any bathroom.
